The Cat Protection Trust is the brain child of Indira Sahadevan which was founded in 2012. It is a nonprofit all volunteer operation and has continuity solely on donations received. Indira’s mission in Sri Lanka to rescue and sterilize cats began in 2009 when she returned to Sri Lanka after living in the UK for 29 years.
Today, her passion has spread to not only the establishment of the trust but also to conduct sterilization camps in the Gampaha District where she chose to commence her focus on the reduction of unwanted kittens and stabilize the cat population as an initial start.
From sheltering abandoned kittens in her own home to rescuing puppies as well, Indira believes her work has only just begun. Through the generosity of donors and sponsors, she is able to continue her life’s mission. Through this page, The Cat Protection Trust aims to create awareness for Sri Lankans of the on-going problem of animal cruelty and neglect that souls like Indira feel responsible for and work hard eradicating.
We strive to improve the lives of cats in Sri Lanka & Promote the education of Animal Welfare in local communities & reduce the stray animal population.
