Aquamarines International was established over five decades ago, by a young diver cum micro-entrepreneur, venturing in to a pioneering business sector of ornamental fish breeding and export. It all started in 1963 as a backyard operation, facing blue sea waves, within a suburb town, Ratmalana 10 kilo meters from capital Colombo in Sri Lanka. Today, the small business, has achieved robust growth reaching new heights, thro’ an inspiring and daunting leadership provided to a highly professional team by founder Chairman& CEO Ananda Pathirana and his son Yohan Pathirana. The company, in the midst of fierce competition has successfully expanded in to major export markets by raising high quality standards and diversifying the product-mix meeting with the demand of a wide spectrum of buyers of over 350 dealers and public aquariums around the globe.

In business since 1963, the establishment now owns the largest exports facility in Asia for marine fish exports. Aquamarines is also the only breeder of marine fish in Sri Lanka, producing the worlds best captive bred Seahorse and over 15 varieties of Clown Fish including Designer Clowns, Fire Shrimps, Cleaner Shrimps, Dottybacks, Cardinal Fish and more.Our specialties include; Red Sea fish from our own collecting station, Indian Ocean fish (Sri Lanka Fish) ,Atlantic, Pacific, Caribbean, freshwater captive bred and wild caught fish, water plants and more. Aquamarines has always been a socially responsible company breeding fire shrimps, cleaner shrimps and other marine fish in spite the lack of demand for some captive bred species but focuesing on the betterment of the environment and the trade as a whole. It’s not the first time Aquamarines International has put monetary values behind its social responsibility; in 2003 the organisation bred the endangered freshwater barbs Puntius bandula and Puntius srilankensis to be released back in to the wild to help the depleting numbers in their natural habitat. The project has been a big success with the monitored number of fish increasing rapidly ensuring the survival of two marvellous species.
